Did Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency Get Nod For This Unusual Practice?

There have been numerous reports over the internet about how Bollywood filmmaker and actress Kangana Ranaut had requested approval to shoot scenes of her upcoming magnum opus ‘Emergency‘ on the floors of the Indian Parliament. While most reports were expecting the request to be rejected, it seems that as per the latest reports, the query has been approved!

What makes this quite unusual and one of the few instances if not the first of its kind is the fact the government does not normally allow such shootings in the Parliament, except by channels like Doordarshan. If the reports are to be believed and the Ranaut has indeed got the approval, it would have more to do with the timing of the request than her political ideologies.

It is to be noted that the members of the Parliament will reportedly be moving to the newly constructed building in January. As a result, it is now plausible to shoot on the premises where the members of the Parliament meet, unlike the rest numerous times where filmmakers were forced to spend hefty budgets to make a similar-looking set. While such a set was made for Ranaut’s film Thalaivii, the most imprinted moment may be when Yash’s Rocky barged into the Parliament in the blockbuster KGF: Chapter 2 in April this year.

‘Emergency’ is touted to be a political period film and will tell the story of a watershed moment in Indian politics- when then-former PM Indira Gandhi declared a state of Emergency across the country. The film is looked upon as Ranaut’s big theatrical hit. The movie will be directed and produced by Kangana with the actress also starring as the late PM Indira Gandhi. The movie is also being co-produced by Ranaut alongside Nishant Pitti.
