Kannada film Kantara is the rage these days. The Rishab Shetty film is garnering immensely positive responses from not only the audience but also critics. And so it must because it is undoubtedly a must-watch film and we must appreciate the director Shetty for the same.
His contribution to the film reminds us of the greats in Bollywood who were active in the 50s. Rishab Shetty is not only the director but also the lead actor in the film supported by Sapthami Gowda, Kishor, Achyuth Kumar, and Pramod Shetty.
The film is set initially in the 19th century and is extremely rooted in the culture and lifestyle of then Karnataka. Thus, people who are totally unaware of the Kannada traditions might find it a little difficult to catch the whole essence.
But, the movie can be understood and appreciated nonetheless. Afterall, we hardly see such culturally rooted films in Hindi.
Kantara has been released only in the original Kannada audio and did not even bother to release it in any other language. It has been released in some parts of South India only with English subtitles. The movie has not even been released at prime locations in the Hindi belts let alone a wide theatrical release.
But is it a bad thing?
We don’t think so. Of course, a Kannada film like KGF was celebrated all across in India, credit goes to the wide scale Hindi release. But, Kantara is not like KGF. It is meant for an audience who is aware of the Kannada customs.
Of course, a few cinephiles will certainly appreciate the brilliance of the film but wide scale release and good dubbing take a lot of capital. To release the film at such a scale would only bring disappointment as the majority Hindi audience would not b e able to connect with the film.
Thus, it is a great strategy by the filmmakers that they kept the movie only in Kannada audio.
