The response to the first season of “The Great Indian Kapil Show” was not at all expected. We expected the jokes to be funny and the response of the audience to be serious. However, there was a reversal of fortune as the jokes came out to be seriously bad, and the audience’s reaction was funny, to say the least.
The series was not bad, it was just 6-7 years late. The jokes used to work back in 2018, but the people have evolved, and especially with the consumption of so-called “dark humour” in memes and stand-up comedies, they don’t find the same jokes funny. We do realise that Sunil Grover was a charm but other than him and Krushna Abhishek, there was a little to appreciate.
The Great Indian Kapil Show badly needs to fix the way they curate their jokes according to the “OTT” audiences of 2024.
Calling Shanivaar Funnywar takes us even back to 2009 when Shahid Kapoor’s character from Kaminey used to pronounce [s] as [f]. There is actually nothing funny about “Funnywar”.
There are strong reports that Alia Bhatt will grace the first episode of the show in promotion of Jigra. Let’s hope that Netflix India and Kapil Sharma take the feedback for the first season of the show and, more importantly, show results in the second one.
