Adah Sharma’s “The Kerala Story.” Despite bans in multiple regions, this audacious film, directed by Sudipto Sen, has soared past the extraordinary Rs 200 crore milestone, captivating audiences with its exploration of sensitive topics like love-jihad, Islamophobia, and terrorism.
According to a report, the producers of “The Kerala Story” are facing difficulties in finding OTT buyers for the film. Despite their efforts, they have not received any favorable responses from major platforms.
Sudipto Sen, the director, believes that certain individuals within the industry may have united against them, intending to punish the team for their box office success.
Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, Sudipto Sen expressed his disappointment, stating, “We still haven’t received a suitable offer from any OTT platform for ‘The Kerala Story.’ We are eagerly waiting for a good and workable deal from one of the main OTT platforms. However, so far, we have not received any offers that are worth considering. It appears that the film industry has ganged up to punish us. Our box office success seems to have irked many sections of the film industry. We have a feeling that a particular segment of the entertainment industry has united to penalize us for our success.”
The inability to secure an OTT deal for “The Kerala Story” raises questions about the dynamics and preferences within the digital streaming landscape. While the film achieved remarkable success in theaters, its ban in some regions and its controversial subject matter might have deterred potential OTT buyers.
Ultimately, the fate of “The Kerala Story” in the realm of OTT platforms will depend on the willingness of streaming services to embrace diverse and unconventional content and the filmmakers’ ability to navigate the intricacies of the digital distribution landscape.
This is unfortunate and cruel that the movie is struggling for digital release. The movie became a blockbuster after people embraced it, so it is equivalent to snatching the right of people to watch the film.
