Netflix has dropped the trailer of its upcoming Dutch original series ‘Dirty Lines’ and it gets real hot and interesting in here. Inspired by Fred Saueressig’s book ‘06-Cowboys’ and about the rise of the telephone sex lines in the late 1980s, ‘Dirty Lines’ will premiere only on Netflix on 8th April, 2022.
The trailer begins with two men discussing the idea of a telephone sex line and how one of them considers it to be a crap. Despite this the idea comes into being and soon sky rockets with multiple calls pouring in every single day.
The success was such that their lines were increased from 20 to 300. There’s was no looking back now and what was a mere idea expanded into something huge. Marly Salomon, a psychology student, who started it as a side job has now got so invested in it that she not only gave the idea to subdivide the lines into a nurse line, an air hostess line, an S&M line and many more, also feels like an expert at it now.
But soon things take a down turn when the phone company cuts off their lines. What follows is a crazy emotional ride with a group of young people trying to find a way out for themselves.
‘Dirty Lines’ on Netflix is a six part series that tells the story of young businessman Frank Stigter. After several unsuccessful attempts to start his own business, Frank sees his chance when the national telephone company PTT introduces premium-rate numbers. With the help of his brother and sister and some dubious investors, he starts the first telecom sex company in Europe. What starts as a clumsy improvised experiment in their parents’ garage, rapidly develops into a multi-million dollar industry.
Set at the end of the Cold War, the series inspires a young generation to shake off the doomsday thinking of the ‘80s and focus on how to celebrate life to its fullest. Amsterdam becomes the center of that cultural revolution with a radical new form of music (house) and a new love-drug (XTC). The erotic phone lines offer the opportunity to experience anonymous sex in a new way, changing the morality of its consumers, but also the people creating it. Both of them looking for new ways to express their hidden erotic fantasies.
Main characters of ‘Dirty Lines’ are Joy Delima as Marly, Minne Koole as Frank, Chris Peters as Ramon, Charlie Chan Dagelet as Natasja, Abbey Hoes as Anoek and Benja Bruijning as Leon. The cast also includes Julia Akkermans, Yari van der Linden, Joes Brauers, André Dongelmans, Ayla Çekin Satijn, Laura Bakker, Pip Lieke Lucas, Casper Nusselder, Manoushka Zeegelaar Breeveld en Eric van Sauers.
‘Dirty Lines’ on Netflix is created and written by Pieter Bart Korthuis (Fighter’s Heart, Penoza) and directed by Tomas Kaan with Anna van der Heide. Amsterdam based production company Fiction Valley has produced the series for Netflix.
