Last year in September, we had apprised our readers that OTT giant Amazon Prime Video had become a content aggregator and had launched the Channels service in India. Presently, Prime Video’s mobile and web apps are offering its subscribers several subscription-based OTT platforms by paying an additional subscription fee. These OTT apps are Lionsgate Play, Discovery Plus, Eros Now, Hoichoi, Manorama Max, Docubay, Shorts TV, AMC+, Nammaflix, Hayu, Acorn TV, and Mubi.
And as per the current rates, these OTT platforms are being offered to Amazon Prime subscribers in accordance with the following subscription rates:
Lionsgate Play – Rs. 499 per year
AMC+ Rs. 349 per year
Manorama Max – Rs. 699 per year
Discovery Plus – Rs. 399 per year
Eros Now – Rs. 199 per year
Acorn TV – Rs. 249 per year
Hoichoi – Rs. 699 per year
Mubi – Rs. 1999 per year
Docubay – Rs. 499 per year
Shorts TV – Rs. 249 per year
Hayu – Rs. 999 per year
NammaFlix – Rs. 199 per year
(Some of the above-mentioned OTT platforms are already being offered at an introductory discounted rate.)
And in a fantastic piece of update for Indian OTT audiences and Prime subscribers, Amazon has recently disclosed that the aforementioned Prime Video Channels (excluding Acorn TV and Discovery Plus) can soon be bought at discounted rates of up to 50% off. The offer can be availed on Amazon’s eagerly anticipated Prime Day, a two-day annual discount event which is to be held on 23rd and 24th July 2022.
However, one detail which we couldn’t observe on Prime Video’s OTT app is that whether the discount would be applicable on the Channels’ original subscription rates or on the current offer prices.
For instance, Lionsgate Play is currently being offered at an introductory price of Rs. 499 per year against its original subscription rate of Rs. 699 per year. As of now, it seems to be unclear whether the discount on Prime Day will be applicable on the introductory price of Rs. 499 per year or the original rate of Rs. 699 per year. Because that is going to make a significant difference on the final discounted subscription price. We should get more clarity on the same on 23rd July when Prime Day arrives. Stay tuned until then.
