Taking a leaf out of Netflix’s successful strategy of bringing exciting content from Asia Pacific countries, Disney+ has picked up a total of 18 titles from the region, with more to come in future. Disney+ has picked up a variety of content from Asia Pacific countries such as South Korea, Japan, China, Indonesia, Australia and more. Content from Asia Pacific countries is slowly gaining mainstream popularity across the world.
Netflix’s Korean dramas are hits, with the latest ‘Squid Game’ topping the charts in almost every country it streams in. Japanese Anime are also gaining traction in recent years, as well as Chinese dramas, dubbed C-dramas. As the streaming wars intensify, and the battle for audience eyeballs and subscription monies thickens, it is imperative for streamers to reinvent themselves in different ways. Asia, with its millions of eager and paying subscribers, is the new battleground for the world’s top streaming platforms
Disney+ unveiled its impressive slate of 18 titles from the Asia Pacific region at an online event hosted at its regional headquarters in Singapore. The titles include series, documentaries and films, and straddle genres such as drama, comedy, fantasy, romcoms, romance, crime, horror, sci-fi and anime. A documentary on the K-pop group BLACKPINK, a superhero action drama called ‘Moving’, a couple of Korean romantics dramas titled ‘Snowdrop’ and ‘Rookies’, Japanese comedy ‘Lost Man Found’, Japanese horror ‘Gannibal’, anime ‘Summer Time Rendering’, Chinese legal drama ‘Small And Mighty’, are some of the titles that Disney+ announced at the event.
