Disney Buys $1.5B Stake In Epic Games; Plans Fusion With Fortnite
The Walt Disney Company has picked up a $1.5 Billion stake in Epic Games, the parent company of the massively popular Fortnite video game franchise. Going ahead, Disney plans to collaborate with Epic Games to create an all-new games and entertainment universe that will enable it to further expand the reach of well-loved Disney stories and experiences.
The collaboration between The Walt Disney Company and Epic Games will allow Disney to bring together its most loved brands and franchises with the hugely popular Fortnite and create an expansive, transformational, interoperable universe that will let users play, watch, shop and engage with content, characters and stories from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, Avatar and more.
Disney’s $1.5 Billion investment in Epic Games will also mark its biggest foray ever into the world of games. The Mouse House had previously collaborated with Epic to bring characters from Marvel, Star Wars, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Tron and more to Fortnite.
The tie-up with Disney is Epic Games’ second big collaboration of recent times. The gaming company has recently also collaborated with Lego for a Minecraft-like survival game on the gaming platform.
