One of the Disney executives, Brad Simonsen, has offered an exciting update on the highly anticipated Zootopia 2. He believes that the sequel will be “as good or better” than the first film.
The first Zootopia movie came out in 2016. It had a sensational cast, consisting of actors like Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, Idris Elba, Jenny Slate, Nate Torrence, J. K. Simmons, Octavia Spencer, Shakira, and more. It earned over $1 billion at the global box office.
In addition to the 2016 film, the Zootopia franchise has a spin-off series, Zootopia+, which arrived on the Disney+ streaming platform in November last year.
Apart from its mere existence, we do not know anything about Zootopia 2. This is what Simonsen said about the sequel in his recent interview with The Direct:
“We’re all super excited about it. And It’s a world that I was part of the first movie, and it was one of the most amazing experiences in my life, to be honest, I know that this next one’s going to take it to another level and be, as you know, as good or better than the first. So we’re super excited about that project.”
The duo of Goodwin and Bateman will return to voice their respective characters in Zootopia 2. What should we expect from the sequel? Well, we may witness some new animals in the upcoming Disney film. Exploring the world of aquatic animals or reptiles would be cool. And we definitely want to see the fastest sloth in the history of DMV (Department of Mammal Vehicles) in the sequel again, Flash Slothmore.
The 2016 Zootopia has a ‘fresh’ rating of 98% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 298 reviews.
Disney has yet to lock a release window for Zootopia 2. Stay tuned for more updates.
