Remember the big news from two days back when Netflix posted a job for an AI manager? They offered a humongous salary of $9000 for the job.
Well, just like ad supported plans, Disney is imitating Netflix.
Disney is now seeking skilled individuals to work with generative AI. Disney’s R&D Imagineering position offers a yearly salary of around $180,000 and requires someone who can push AI tools’ limits while understanding the distinction between data and creative input.
This job posting comes amidst ongoing strikes by SAG-AFTRA and the Writers Guild of America, who are fighting for fair wages and are concerned about AI’s impact on their jobs.
While Disney has been using digital effects to modify performances for a long time, the technology has rapidly evolved. The increasing use of AI in the entertainment industry is causing concern among union members who fear it may encroach on creative spaces currently dominated by human actors and writers. The future impact of these AI tools remains to be seen as technology continues to advance.
The timing of these job posts are so wrong that it almost seems as an insult to all those writers who are on the street. But these companies are unbothered about anything and everything when it comes to profit.
