Streaming platforms and the curious case of dubbing of its famous web series have been the talk of the town. Dubbing for web series is something that most fans in India lookout for and with a country so rich in diversity, platforms should be ready to launch the dubbed versions as soon as possible. This has been the case for many platforms, but time and again they rise up, pick themselves up and release the dubbed versions as soon as possible.
Let’s take Disney+ Hotstar for example, one of India’s premier streaming platforms, that only has its slew of series but also is the home to all things Marvel, Disney, and everything related to it. The streaming platform has been proactive when it comes to releasing dubbed versions of its series. Like, some time ago, Hotstar dropped the news that its web series “November Story” starring Tamanaah is released in Bengali, Kannada, Marathi, and Malayalam. It covers almost all the major regional southern languages and fans have been thrilled to get this news.
On the other hand, this is not exactly the case with another favorite streaming platform of India- Amazon Prime Video. The platform has released some of the biggest web series in the past few years, with Mirzapur, Paatal Lok, The Family Man, Made In Heaven, Tandav and so many other iconic series. The series releases but it takes ages for the streaming platform to release any sort of dubbed version for it.
Recently, Prime Video has been on the news for its line-up of releases that are scheduled for Prime Day. These include the release of Toofaan, Ikkat, Malik, Sarpatta Parambarai, Hostel Daze Season 2, Judas and The Black Messiah, and Tom & Jerry. Out of these, Sarpatta Parambarai will be released in both Tamil and Telugu, but there’s no news about the other dubs.
People have been begging for the dubbed version of The Family Man Season2. It has been more than a month now and there have been no updates on whether the dubbed versions will be released or not. The same was the case when Tandav was released, and also Mirzapur. They add the dubbed versions of these series when the fun and buzz of the series dies down, and it’s already time for another series to take over.
It has been like this with Prime Video for quite some time now, whereas, with Disney+ Hotstar, the scene is totally different. That streaming platform has gone ahead and dropped the dubbed versions of even Marvel’s Loki and fans couldn’t ask for more. While Hotstar is getting even the international ones dubbed, it seems Prime Video is nowhere near that.
Whatever is done, is done, but The Family Man series that stars the southern superstar Samantha Akkineni, definitely needs the dubbed versions now, because everyone deserves to enjoy their favorite stars in action, with their language when the option is clearly available.
So, here’s us hoping that maybe Prime Video, who has a dedicated fan base, can quickly release the dubbed versions of the shows that fans have been dying to watch in the languages they are comfortable with. Hoping that this good news arrives soon, and definitely, the Prime Day event seems like the best opportunity.
