Disney+ Hotstar’s 1232KM takes us on a journey that shows us the obstacles and difficulties that were faced by the migrants during the nation-wide lockdown. 2020 was a tough year for most of us and we wish that we could zoom past this year that seemed to last for an eternity but many of us still had the comforts of our homes and a roof over our head where we could lay safe and sound. The people who suffered the most were the labourers and migrants who had nowhere to go as an overnight lockdown in the nation left them hanging.
People travelled huge distances in an attempt to return home because they were unable to afford the price of staying in the cities with no work to do and very little in the way of support. Many of them lost their lives on the path and many were weakened by the long journey and Disney+ Hotstar’s 1232KM is the story of this human exodus.
Vinod Kapri, Vishal Bharadwaj, Sukhwinder Singh, Gulzar are all part of this project that aims to shed more light on the plight of our daily wage workers and labourers. The advent of the OTT platforms has brought a lot of stories based on real incidents to the forefront. Disney+ Hotstar’s 1232 KM is also one of the first documentaries regarding the large-scale migration that took place during the lockdown. This documentary also makes us realize that there were people who had it much worse and we were lucky just to survive such a global catastrophe.
1232KM will be streaming on Disney+ Hotstar from 24th March.
