Disney+ Hotstar adds another film to its kitty of direct to digital releases. This time it’s the lady superstar Nayanthara starrer Tamil film ‘Netrikann’. The release date of the film to premiere on Disney+ Hotstar under its Multiplex offering will be announced soon.
In the poster unveiled by Disney+ Hotstar an injured Nayanthara is seen in a defending/attacking posture with a red backdrop.

‘Netrikann’ is a mystery-thriller film and is said to be inspired from the 2011 Korean film ‘Blind’. The story follows a girl who loses her eyesight in an accident. Few years later she becomes witness to a hit and run case. On further investigation it turns out that this case is somehow linked to a missing person’s case. The blind girl is later forced to confront the killer on her own. Will she be able to protect herself?
‘Netrikann’ is directed by ‘The House Next Door’ director Milind Rau. Other than Nayanthara, the films also stars Ajmal Ameer, Manikandan Pattambi and Saran in prominent roles. After ‘Mookuthi Amman’, this is the second film starring Nayanthara to premiere directly on Disney+ Hotstar.
Vignesh Shivan via Rowdy Pictures has produced the film with Hyunwoo Thomas Kim of Kross Pictures, Inc and K.S. Mayilvaganan serving as co-producers.
‘Netrikann’ joins the list of Disney+ Hotstar’s growing Tamil slate that includes direct-to-OTT films like ‘Mookuthi Amman’, Jayam Ravi’s ‘Bhoomi’, Arya’s ‘Teddy’ and Trisha’s ‘Parampadham Vilayattu’. The platform also has few Tamil Hotstar Special web series streaming on the platform like Kajal Aggarwal’s ‘Live Telecast’, Tamannaah’s ‘November Story’ and Karthik Subbaraj’s ‘Triples’.
While ‘Mookuthi Amman’ in films and ‘November Story’ in web series were a decent watch, none of the previously released Tamil content proved to be a blockbuster for the platform. It will be interesting to see if ‘Netrikann’ will give Disney+ Hotstar the breakthrough that it has been looking for in the Tamil content category.
