There is good news for nostalgia seekers who are fans of the ‘National Treasure’ film franchise. The makers of the upcoming ‘National Treasure’ series have brought back a fan-favorite character from the Nicolas Cage starrer original film series. Justin Bartha, who had essayed the role of Riley Poole, a cynical computer genius and Nicolas Cage’s best friend, is set to reprise his role for the Disney Plus series.
Justin Bartha had acted in both ‘National Treasure’ (2004) and its sequel ‘National Treasure: Book of Secrets’ in 2007. In the Disney+ series, he is said to make a guest appearance. Besides ‘National Treasure’, Justin Bartha is popular for his roles in ‘The Hangover’ films and ‘The Good Fight’ show, amongst other acting projects.
The parent ‘National Treasure’ film followed the adventures of a treasure hunter and cryptographer Benjamin Gates (Nicolas Cage), who goes in search of a secret location containing a massive stockpile of hidden treasure with the help of a coded map.
On the other hand, the ‘National Treasure’ series would carry forward the story concept of the film series, albeit with a younger cast. The show would feature Lisette Alexis as Jess, who makes it her mission to unearth her family’s mysterious past and to find a lost Pan-American treasure.
Other cast members for the Disney Plus National Treasure series include Catherine Zeta-Jones, Zuri Reed, Jordan Rodrigues, Antonio Cipriano, Jake Austin Walker, and Lyndon Smith in undisclosed roles.
Filming for the National Treasure series had commenced earlier this year in February in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The series is being directed by the globally renowned Indian origin filmmaker Mira Nair, whose previous directorial credits include ‘Salaam Bombay!’, ‘Monsoon Wedding’, ‘The Namesake’, and more recently ‘The Suitable Boy’ series.
