It seems like Disney+ is walking the shadows of Netflix in curating its original shows and movies. Disney+ is currently focussing on it’s international language features and series alongside teen rom-coms apart from MCU originals.
Disney+ original romantic comedy “Prom Pact” helmed by “Ginny & Georgia” fame Anya Adams has brought Margaret Cho, Blake Draper, Monique Green, Arica Himmel, Jason Sakaki and David S. Jung on board. They join Peyton Elizabeth Lee and Milo Manheim in the teen romantic comedy. Anthony Lombardo wrote the script for the film that is currently under production for a spring 2023 debut on Disney+.
This teenage romantic comedy follows a peak prom season at a high school. Senior Mandy Yang (played by Lee), her bestie and fellow outsider Ben (played by Manheim) are surrounded by campy ’80s-themed Prom-proposals. However, Mandy’s eyes are set on her lifelong dream of attending Harvard. When she’s informed of being in the waitlist, she is determined to make her dream work by hook or crook, even if that meant tutoring the one person she despises – popular Graham Lansing (Draper), whose father is an influential senator and Harvard alum. Once Mandy starts tutoring Graham, she realises there’s more to him beyond her judgements and perhaps more to life than attending Harvard.
Margaret Cho plays Ms. Chen, a sarcastic and quick witted counselor who helps Mandy in her attempts to make it into Harvard. Monique Green is cast as popular cheerleader LaToya, Arika Himmel and Jason Sakaki as Mandy’s close friends Zenobia and Charles, while Jung plays her dad, Tom.
The Emmy-nominated actor and comedian Margaret Choo will also soon be seen in HBO Max’s hit series “Hacks” and “The Flight Attendant”.Green stars in Disney+’s “Big Shot” next and Sakaki has an upcoming release in Netflix series “Devil in Ohio”.
