Phase Four is undoubtedly the most polarising phase in the rich history of the MCU. Call it a phase of over-experimentation or heartbreaking messiness, but it has successfully enraged a large portion of the MCU fanbase. And we mean seriously enraged! Many fans have started believing that the superhero franchise has lost its touch after the events of Endgame (2019). Is it true? Well, their disappointment looks valid considering the hugely divided audience’s reception of many post-Endgame projects like Eternals, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love and Thunder, and rushed finales of many Disney+ MCU shows. Now, the ‘She-Hulk: Attorney at Law’ series has become the latest target of triggered fans.
The upcoming She-Hulk series has already turned a lot of MCU lovers into MCU haters. There are many reasons behind this chaotic scenario. But the biggest one among them is the CGI utilised to show the protagonist. Several fans expressed their disappointment over the female superhero’s character design on social media after the arrival of the show’s teaser. Series helmer Kat Coiro addressed the issue in an interview with SFX Magazine:
“I think a lot of the reactions have to do with the fact that she is so different than anything we’ve seen. When you think of Thanos or Hulk, they have a grisliness and a harshness and a bulkiness to them that is just so different. And when you just see a little pop of her, it’s almost shocking because we haven’t seen it before.”
Haters also attacked Jameela Jamil online for the costume she wore in the series. We will see the actress playing Titania, one of the most prominent rivals of She-Hulk. Many fans believe that the costume unnecessarily sexualises the supervillain. However, Jamil defended her looks via a tweet:
“I accept every ounce of shade here, but in defense of my excellent hair stylist, this is just my hair after a 14-hour stunt day in Atlanta heat. Just after being upside down. She did a *great* job on the show I promise. I love her. Boobs look OK tho?”
Another thing that is troubling the haters is the show’s format. The series looks like a sitcom infused with superhero entertainment. We also see the leading lady breaking the fourth wall in the show’s trailer.
The She-Hulk series looks very different from all the previous Disney+ Marvel shows. Makers have certainly experimented heavily on almost all of the show’s elements. That’s why fans are not too enthusiastic about the superhero series. The thing which makes experimentation a thrilling procedure is that no one can predict its result. If the result looks good, everyone becomes ecstatic. Otherwise, all hell breaks loose. That’s exactly what is happening with the upcoming Tatiana Maslany starrer.
The chemistry between Maslany and Mark Ruffalo looks amazing. Additionally, the former perfectly displays Jennifer Walters’ vibrant and free-spirited persona. The rest of the cast looks in good touch too. Also, Tim Roth’s Abomination and Wong may come out as the series’ surprise packages. Wait! We almost forgot to mention Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock aka Daredevil.
If we focus on the show’s positive elements, then we can conclude that the She-Hulk series doesn’t deserve this much hate. Let’s hope for the best!
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law stars Tatiana Maslany, Mark Ruffalo, Jameela Jamil, Tim Roth, Josh Segarra, Charlie Cox, and many more. It will premiere on August 18 on Disney+ Hotstar. Stay tuned for more updates.
