Who doesn’t love offers? Especially for occassions like Friday the 13th? Well, it is not a big deal in our country but American festivals are mostly about spending in the illusion of discounts.
So here we go.
Disney has introduced a special promotion for its ad-supported streaming service, Disney+ Basic. New and returning subscribers can sign up for just $1.99 per month for three months, saving a total of $18 during that period. However, this offer is only available until September 27.
Now, this heavy discount is not because of the company’s benevolence. It has a deep rooted reason in dispute.
This promotion comes as Disney is facing a dispute with DirecTV. As a result of this fight Disney’s 16 networks were removed from the pay-TV provider on September 1. It is not really sure if the Disney+ deal is related to this disagreement.
While Disney+ is known for its original content, it also offers viewers access to programming from its traditional TV channels.
The timing of the promotion is important because Disney is planning to raise prices for its streaming platforms in October. The cost of Disney+ Basic will increase by $2 to $9.99 per month. So, it is like the last option people have to save some bucks for Thanksgiving.
Disney’s streaming services are kind of growing financially as the company reported its first overall profit from streaming last quarter.
However, Disney+ and Hulu may become individually financially independent by the end of this year. As of the last quarter, Disney+ has 118.3 million subscribers, slightly up from the previous year.
