The shooting for Shabaash Feluda has started. It is going to be the second season of the franchise. It is being helmed by Arindam Sil. The man directed the first part back in 2017, currently streaming on Adda Times. There is hardly any doubt about the abilities of Sil as a director but it was an absolute fiasco in the case of Feluda.
Having two super-talented actors in the lead, Feluda stars Parambrata Chatterjee and Riddhi Sen. However, Riddhi Sen has been replaced, and the new cast includes Parambrata Chatterjee with Rwitobroto Mukherjee, Sauraseni Maitra, Rudranil Ghosh, and Ritwick Chakraborty.
If you remember then in December 2022 a film called Hatyapuri was released. It was directed by Sandip Ray, who is the son of Satyajit Ray. It was brutally criticized for its cast and overall execution. Interestingly, Sandip Ray is credited for making some of the finest Feluda films with Sabyasachi as the lead. Alas, the audience downright rejected his latest venture.
While there are many Satyajit Ray stories waiting for film adaptations, the only relevant and admirable work on Feluda is Feludar Goyendagiri by Srijit Mukherjee. It is preceded by Feluda Pherot.
The cast of Srijit’s series is near perfect and their performances put them somewhere near to the actual characters by Ray. Audiences are fed up with Feluda movies but Srihjit was able to revive the nostalgia regarding the characters directors like Arindam Sil and Sandeep Ray is overdoing it. Most of the content is not even worth watching in a row. So the filmmakers in the Bengali film industry must focus on relevant originals rather than milking the great stories of Satyajit Ray.
