Some fans find it almost impossible to imagine Hugh Jackman in a role other than Wolverine. The Australian actor has appeared in nine X-Men films as Logan. Apart from these globally popular projects, he has also worked in movies like Van Helsing (2004), The Prestige (2006), Real Steel (2011), Les Miserables (2012), The Greatest Showman (2017), and more. He is all set to return as Wolverine in the upcoming MCU entry, Deadpool 3, starring alongside Ryan Reynolds. Amidst all these prominent films, Jackman has also worked in many underrated films. One of them is Eddie the Eagle (2016), currently available on Disney+ Hotstar.
“Eddie the Eagle” is based on the real-life story of Eddie Edwards (played by Taron Egerton), who became the first skier to represent Great Britain in Olympic ski jumping in 1988 despite having limited athletic talent. He gets immense support from his coach, Bronson Peary (played by Hugh Jackman).
The movie has a “feel good” vibe to it. It serves as a perfect blend of positive human spirit, humour, and determination. Dexter Fletcher manages to keep the film’s tone entertaining overall with his amazing direction. Plus, it benefits greatly from the performance of the leading duo, Taron Egerton and Hugh Jackman. Both gentlemen did complete justice to their respective characters.
While its box office performance was average, it did excel in terms of critical reception. It currently stands with a ‘fresh’ rating of 82% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on nearly 200 certified reviews.
Apart from Hugh Jackman and Taron Egerton, Eddie the Eagle stars Christopher Walken, Jim Broadbent, Iris Berben, Mark Benton, and more. Stream it now on Disney+ Hotstar. Enjoy!
