Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead flicks are just outstanding in every way. Yes, Fede Alvarez’s 2013 reboot somehow fails to live up to the standard set by the first three Evil Dead films. But it does not mean that it has no worth of its own. The film, despite all its shortcomings, works quite well and manages to chill our spines.
The Evil Dead reboot revolves around Mia, her brother David, and their friends. They decide to drop a visit to an abandoned cabin to help Mia let go of her drug addiction. Inside the cabin, they get their hands on the evil Book of the Dead, Naturom Demonto. Soon, they unknowingly summon evil forces. As a result, the demonic entities start hunting them one by one, forcing the remaining survivor, Mia, to battle “Abomination” in the end.
The 2013 reboot largely received positive reviews upon its theatrical release. Though, we advise you not to watch this one if you face difficulty in witnessing blood and violence. And believe us, this film treasures tons of bloody violence.
What stands out the most in Alvarez’s Evil Dead is how expertly it takes advantage of gore and practical effects, giving viewers a petrifying and visceral horror experience. It was a box office success, earning over $95 million against its $17 million budget.
You can stream Evil Dead (2013) on Netflix. It stars Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Jessica Lucas, Lou Taylor Pucci, and more. Enjoy!
