Meryl Streep in a Margaret Thatcher biopic is the best thing that can happen to lovers of historical dramas. ‘The Iron Lady’ had impressed critics and generations at the time of its release and still carries on blowing their minds.
The movie goes forward in flashbacks. Margaret Thatcher, the Iron Lady, is much aged when the movie starts, and she is coping with the recent death of her husband. She empties her husband’s wardrobe, and thinks about past times. She also recollects her political journey, from the very beginning.
The screenplay of the movie is written by Abi Morgan and it is directed by filmmaker Phyllida Lloyd. Apart from Meryl Streep in the lead role there is a plethora of actors in important roles. Jim Broadbent, Olivia Colman, Roger Allam, Susan Brown, Nick Dunning, Nicholas Farrell, Iain Glen are some of them.
The movie is wonderfully executed. The Iron Lady got multiple nominations for prestigious awards like the Oscars and Golden Globes. Meryl Streep won the Academy Award For Best Actress for her role. There could have been no other actress who could portray the role of Margaret Thatcher with so much dedication. The way she portrays power and vulnerability, is mesmerizing. The performances of other actors are commendable too. Thomas Newman has composed some pretty nice music for the movie and the cinematography is handled by Elliot Davis.
You should not miss the movie if you are a fan of historical dramas. The movie is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
