We are living in strange times. The easiest thing to do is to offend someone and people are pretty serious about the thing they have been offended with.
The latest news is from Haryana and it involves Netflix India.
The Hooda Khap, a prominent community council in Haryana, has announced a social boycott of the movie Do Patti, its makers, cast, and Netflix India. The boycott is in response to a dialogue in the film where the word “Hooda” is used, which the Khap claims is derogatory toward their community. In a recent meeting at the Sarv Hooda Khap platform in Basantpur, Rohtak district, Khap leaders called for the immediate removal of the word “Hooda” from the film and a public apology from the filmmakers. Until these demands are met, the Khap has decided to maintain its boycott of Do Patti and its creators.
The Hooda Khap has given the BJP-led Haryana government one month to take action against the film. Khap leaders have stated that if their demands are not met within this period, they will convene a larger community meeting to decide on further steps, possibly leading to an “extreme” action for which they hold the government accountable. Khap has decided to send a letter to Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Haryana Chief Minister, urging them to intervene.
A six-member committee has been formed by the Khap to oversee these efforts, and a legal notice has already been sent to Netflix India and the filmmakers, demanding that they halt streaming until the word “Hooda” is removed. However, the Khap claims that they have not received a satisfactory response so far.
So, there are chances that the film may be temporarily removed from the platform but let’s see what actually happens.
