Vijayendra Prasad, the screenplay writer behind blockbuster hits like ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ and ‘Baahubali’, has said that he and the makers are planning to make a sequel for the superhit film ‘RRR’. It will be made with NTR Jr. and Ram Charan, on a huge budget and a Hollywood like scale.
But do we really need this sequel?
RRR was a huge success in the west because it was a solo standalone story and the merit of the movie was in this movie itself. There was nothing behind it, nor was there any plot hole to be repaired by any further sequels. The movie was necessary because audiences were fed up with adaptations, sequels and remakes.
By making a sequel of RRR, the makers will lose the whole point. It does not do good to churn successful stories. RRR was a work of genius, but if the makers get into fan-pleasing with sequels and spin-offs, there might not be any magic left there. It is not sure if Rajamouli himself will direct the movie or there would be somebody else under his supervision. Rajamouli’s magical world of RRR can be destroyed with bad execution.
There are so many original stories to be told, Rajamouli is also thinking of making a large scale Mahabharata. It will not be wise to make a RRR sequel at this time. The Baahubali movies were meant to be released in two parts. But RRR was always a standalone story and making a sequel would just be stretching out the thing unreasonably far.
