Sivakarthikeyan starrer ‘Doctor’ has beaten all records to emerge as what we can call the first Kollywood blockbuster post the second Covid wave. The film that performed exceedingly well on its first weekend, has lived up to expectations and continues to enjoy a great run at the box office. It has given stiff competition to yesterday’s new release, Arya-Raashi Khanna starrer, ‘Aranmanai 3’. The horror comedy franchise has not been able to go off to a flying start, despite many housefull shows throughout the state. What’s more is that the sixth day collections of ‘Doctor’ has turned out better than the first day figures of ‘Aranmanai 3’. Read on to know more.
The bilingual ‘Doctor‘, that deals with organ trafficking and kidnapping, has been widely appreciated and saw a collection of over 8 crores on the first day in Tamil Nadu itself. With great reviews and word of mouth, the film managed to see huge weekday collections too during its first week run. The film has managed to gross around 5 crores in the state on day 6, while ‘Aranmanai 3’ has grossed 4 crores, with the gross total collection of day 1 expected to be in the range of 5-6 crores. Interestingly, the Telugu version of ‘Doctor’ titled ‘Varun Doctor’ too, has managed to do well and give decent competition to the new Tollywood releases, ‘Maha Samudram’, ‘Most Eligible Bachelor’ and ‘Pelli SandaD’.
Despite being one of the most anticipated horror comedy franchises, ‘Aranmanai 3‘ has not been able to overtake the collections of ‘Doctor’ on the first day itself. Although many cinema theatres have announced housefull shows, the film took a hit right at the start with a dearth in the number of screens. ‘Doctor’s massive success has heavily impacted the figures of ‘Aranmanai 3’ to say the least and although day 2 being a Saturday is likely to see better results, not much is likely to change for the Arya starrer. At this rate, the second day collections are being predicted in the range of 5-6 crores, where the budget of the film is around 22 crores. It is to be seen whether these dynamics really change on day 2. Stay tuned to Binged for more updates!
