The highly anticipated trailer for the second Dr. Strange film, ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’, finally released online, a few hours ago. The trailer was first featured in the recently released theatrical film, ‘Spiderman: No Way Home’ – a feature that came out barely a week ago. Most, if not all, hardcore MCU fans should have seen this trailer by now. And many would have noticed the upcoming film’s connection with the MCU animated anthology web series, ‘What If…?’.
The trailer drops a couple of hints about the Phase IV series, ‘What If…?’. The first one happens within the first 25 seconds of the trailer. We see the “ex-Sorcerer Supreme” rushing into the streets of New York with the building around him getting distorted and lost in reality – all the while Mordo voice-overs a chilling line, “Your desecration of reality… Will not go unpunished”. This reminds us of the fourth episode from the ‘What If..?’ series, which is titled ‘What If… Doctor Strange Lost His Heart Instead of His Hands’ – the time when the universe started to disintegrate in front of Doctor Strange.
The second clue is the two different Doctor Stranges in the trailer – which was the same in the aforementioned episode from ‘What If…?’. However, we don’t expect this Marvel movie to limit itself to just one variant version of Doctor Strange. With Loki, Wanda Maximoff and a new MCU character, America Chavez, who is capable of interdimensional travel, all making an appearance in this film, we expect more versions of our favourite sorcerer to appear as well.
The final clue is Doctor Strange having the power to summon tentacles with his magic to defend himself. We haven’t seen Stephen Strange do this ability before except in the previously mentioned animated series and now, in this film trailer. Granted, he used magic in the trailer while the Doctor Strange from the series turned into a summoner and absorbed various creatures into his body. This allowed the Sorcerer Supreme to access their power. Few of the creatures he absorbed were monsters that had tentacles, which he used in combat just like from the promo video. Check out this above-mentioned trailer at the end of this article.
‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ will release in theatres next year, May 6th 2022.
