Last week, Disney’s official UK website accidentally revealed the release date for upcoming Disney Plus series, ‘She-Hulk‘. Now, it seems, one of Disney’s media outlets has unwittingly revealed yet another crucial piece of information – the OTT release date for the latest Marvel film, ‘Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness’!
Last evening, Disney Plus Germany’s official Instagram handle, ‘Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness‘ announced, as part of their June lineup, that Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness would release on streaming on Disney Plus on June 22. Within minutes of the same, the Disney Plus Germany handle realised their mistake, and pulled down the post from their Instagram. But the damage had been done. Eagle-eyed netizens had latched on to the incriminating Instagram post. The news was first shared by Twitter handle, @DragonSkill01

So, the question is – will Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness stream on OTT on Disney Plus on June 22 or not?

June 22, the date, matches exactly with Disney’s policy of releasing its movies on streaming at least 45 days after their theatrical release, maybe even later. Doctor Strange 2 released in theatres worldwide on May 6. June 22 is exactly the 46th day after its theatrical release.
Some might think 45 days is too soon for a prestigious Disney and Marvel film to arrive on streaming. Both Shangh-Chi and Eternals began streaming on Disney Plus around 70 days after their theatrical release. Why then would Disney and Marvel want to release Doctor Strange 2 on streaming in 45 days straight?
The answer lies in the fact that Disney has tons of Marvel releases happening back to back – both in the theatres, as well as on streaming. There’s Ms. Marvel, Thor: Love And Thunder, She-Hulk, Black Panther 2, Guardians Of The Galaxy Holiday Special, and maybe some more last minute announcements.
June 22 could be an ideal date to release Doctor Strange 2 on streaming, before Thor: Love And Thunder arrives in the theatres on July 8th.
