The first season of the docu series ‘Chasing Waves’ is now streaming on Disney+Hotstar. It had its international release today and is streaming in India too on the same day.
It is a documentary series and it goes deeper into the sport of surfing and gives the viewers an intimate detail of it. Surfing is a cultural sport in Japan and it made an Olympic debut in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
‘Chasing Waves’ is also a commentary on the rich culture of Japan and how it is going through a change. The makers make an attempt to draw the attention of audiences to the traditional sport of Japan, that is surfing. The show tells the stories of the people who worked and are still working for the preservation of the cultural Legacy of the sport and it shows some of the most iconic surfing moments of Japan.
Chasing Waves also deals with the distinct features of Japan that make it so special for Surfing and makes it different from other coastal areas. It also tries to explore the reasons that inspire the athletes from different backgrounds to take up the sport and go through it.
It features extraordinary surfers like Mahina Maeda, Yuma Tanuki, Sara Kohrogi, Kanoa Igarashi, and Connor O’Leary. The show is directed by Sophia Kruz and Jason Baffa and has a total of eight episodes. It is definitely worth a watch if you are a sports geek and love documentaries on them. You will also get a vivid picture of Japanese life in ‘Chasing Waves’.
