In a fantastic piece of news for fans of the ‘Alien’ film franchise, a new standalone Alien movie is in the works at 20th Century Studios for streaming service Hulu and is being produced by the parent film’s legendary director Ridley Scott. The new Alien film will be written and directed by the talented Uruguayan filmmaker Fede Alvarez, who is also a diehard fan of the franchise.
Fede Alvarez had made his feature film directorial debut with the 2013 ‘Evil Dead’ reboot followed by the critically acclaimed claustrophobic horror flick ‘Don’t Breathe’ starring Stephen Lang. Thereafter, he went behind the camera for the action thriller movie ‘The Girl in the Spider’s Web’ and more recently for the Apple TV+ mystery thriller series ‘Calls’.
Alien films have invariably remained a subject of keen interest for cinephiles ever since the first Alien film helmed by Ridley Scott came out in the year 1979 and eventually achieved a cult following over the years. The more action-packed sequel ‘Aliens’ by James Cameron is also regarded as one of the greatest films of the 1980s.
These two Alien films were followed by two more sequels ‘Alien 3’ (by David Fincher) and ‘Alien Resurrection’ (by Jean-Pierre Jeunet) and two prequel movies ‘Prometheus’ (2012) and ‘Alien: Covenant’ (2017), both directed by Ridley Scott himself. The first four films made its lead actress Sigourney Weaver (Ripley) a household name amongst movie buffs across the globe.
Besides the latest Alien movie by Fede Alvarez, an ‘Alien’ TV series is also being developed and is expected to begin filming later this year. However, the series would not be set in a spaceship unlike Ridley Scott’s ‘Alien’ and James Cameron’s sequel ‘Aliens’. On the contrary, this time, the action-packed goings-on will take place on Earth and the story will ostensibly be set in the near future. Stay tuned to Binged for the latest updates on Fede Alvarez’s new Alien movie.
