The Dark Knight (2008) is indeed one of the best superhero movies of all time. The film took Christopher Nolan’s prominence to a whole new level and revolutionised the superhero genre. In other words, we can say that people started taking the genre seriously after The Dark Knight’s release. The second entry to Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy is now available to stream on Netflix.
The Dark Knight follows Bruce Wayne, aka Batman (Christian Bale), as he witnesses and faces the chaos unleashed by the Clown Prince of Gotham, Joker (Heath Ledger). Apart from terrorising the entire city, Joker also puts Batman in situations that test the latter’s morality. Even Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) becomes one of Joker’s pawns in the end, after losing his sanity due to Rachel’s (Maggie Gyllenhaal) tragic death. This outstanding Christopher Nolan flick explores the thin line between chaos and order and tells how easy it is for a good guy to turn into a bad one. In the end, we see the ultimate showdown between Joker and The Caped Crusader which leaves long-lasting consequences.
One of the things that made The Dark Knight every comic book fan’s favourite film was Heath Ledger’s sensational performance as Joker. His highly dedicated and intense take on the notorious DC villain received acclaim from both viewers and critics. In addition, several factors contributed to the film’s success, like Christopher Nolan’s flawless direction, Christian Bale’s confident and physical performance as Batman, Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard’s electric musical score, Wally Pfister’s outstanding cinematographical work, the film’s dark and realistic tone, and many more.
On Rotten Tomatoes, Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight holds a ‘fresh’ score of 94% (based on 345 reviews). It is now available on Netflix. Stay tuned for more updates.
