If you like films from the 70s Bollywood, here is a nice recommendation. ‘Aalap’ is directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee and stars actors like Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha in the lead roles. It is a wonderful social drama with some beautiful music in it. If you like slice of life movies of the Bimal Roy school of movies, you are going to like this movie too much. It is available to watch on SonyLIV.
The film is written by Rahi Masoom Raza, Biren Tripathy and Jehan Nayyar and the story is by Mukherjee himself. The film tells the story of conflict between a father and son for choosing a career. Amitabh Bachchan plays the role of Alok, who wants to pursue a career in music and opposes his father, who wants him to be a lawyer. Triloki Prasad, the father, is a lawyer himself and a very rich person. Alok flees from the house and wants to take full responsibility of his career himself, but his father does not give in and goes on interfering with his affairs.
Alaap is a very heartwarming movie that took this concept way before films like ‘3 Idiots’ and ‘Dangal’. There is a very nice romance going on parallely as well. And the performances are wonderful as well. Om Prakash plays the role of Triloki Prasad. Other actors like Vijay Sharma, Lily Chakraborty, Master Ravi, Chhaya Devi, Asrani and Manmohan are also in important roles.
The songs are written beautifully by Harivansh Rai Bachchan and Rahi Masoom Raza. The music is given by Jaidev. Watch ‘Alaap’ with your friends and family this weekend in SonyLIV.
