Austin Butler is undoubtedly one of the best actors in Hollywood right now. His menacing portrayal of Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two is enough to prove his insane acting range. But many believe that Butler could not have played Feyd-Rautha if it were not for Elvis (2022), directed by Baz Luhrmann. He plays the iconic Elvis Presley in this over-the-top but mesmerising biographical drama. The film has arrived on Netflix!
Elvis tells the journey of the ‘King of Rock and Roll’ and explores his intricate and controversial relationship with his manager, Colonel Tom Parker (played by Tom Hanks). Apart from Butler and Hanks, the film stars Olivia DeJonge, Helen Thomson, Richard Roxburgh, David Wenham, Dacre Montgomery, and more.
There’s no denying that ‘Elvis’ has changed Austin Butler’s life. The actor went above and beyond to portray Elvis Presley perfectly in the film. He bestowed an authentic portrayal of the King, along with mastering the latter’s unique accent. But the thing that stands out in the movie is Butler’s ability to bring out Presley’s weaknesses and insecurities. In addition, the film benefits from Butler’s on-screen chemistry with the great Tom Hanks, who also does a great job as Colonel. These two are enough to make us forget about the film’s flaws.
On Rotten Tomatoes, Elvis has a ‘fresh’ 77% critic score, based on 398 certified critic reviews. It is now available on Netflix. Watch it now!
