In a piece of exciting news for Jake Gyllenhaal fans and for cinephiles in general, the Academy Award-nominated ‘Brokeback Mountain’ actor might reportedly (via Deadline) star in a remake of the 1989 action film ‘Road House’, which originally starred Patrick Swayze in the lead role.
There were talks of the film’s remake back in the year 2015, however, things didn’t move forward at that time. The commencement of the film’s production is not yet known but the remake’s script draft is ostensibly being reworked.
What makes the remake prospects even more interesting is the involvement of acclaimed filmmaker Doug Liman, who had previously helmed some fine films such as Matt Damon’s ‘The Bourne Identity’, the time-loop sci-fi actioner ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, and the crime drama film ‘American Made’, also starring Tom Cruise.
In case the ‘Road House’ remake actually happens, the film would be the first collaboration between Jake Gyllenhaal and Doug Liman.
The original ‘Road House’ action film revolved around a martial arts expert and a professional bouncer (played by Patrick Swayze) who takes up a job at a small-town roadside bar called The Double Deuce. During his new assignment, the cooler crosses paths with a corrupt business magnate who controls the town.
‘Road House‘ eventually garnered a cult following after its release in 1989. It’s not yet known whether the new ‘Road House’ movie will be a true remake or a modernized, rehashed version of the parent film.
After his most recent 911 thriller ‘The Guilty’, Jake Gyllenhaal will next be seen in Michael Bay’s heist actioner ‘Ambulance’. While Doug Liman’s forthcoming directorial projects include the biographical drama ‘Everest’ besides a rumored sequel for ‘Edge of Tomorrow’.
