Drishyam 2 Trailer Leaves Fans Asking – ‘Why On OTT?’

6th February 2021 will be a day to remember for Amazon Prime Video and for the fans of Drishyam franchise. The OTT giant had a field day with the trailer of Drishyam 2. If you aren’t familiar with the backstory then let me brief you. The official trailer of Drishyam 2 was supposed to arrive on 8th February but Amazon Prime Video made a blunder as they made the trailer public two days before. Despite the short duration of the incident where Prime Video realised their mistake and took the trailer down, the damage was done. It was all over the internet and seeing that, Amazon Prime Video finally released the official trailer for Drishyam 2 two days before.

After seeing the trailer, fans could not be more excited for the movie which continues the journey of Georgekutty and his family. The trailer shows Georgekutty, now a owner of a big theatre (oh the irony) and a movie producer, along with his family who it seems have finally moved on from the horrendous events of the prequel. But now things have settled in, it has also given rise to several rumours about the people involved in the incident of Varun’s death. People have started making different conclusions of the disappearance of IG’s son and several of them believe that Georgekutty and his family are not as innocent as they seem.

The trailer shows Georgekutty and his family again in the heat of the society and Police as a new CI comes into the town. Georgekutty believes that the investigations and interrogations will continue for the rest of their lives and now it is upto them to live with it. The tensions are high and it seems that their involvement in the act might become public anytime.

The trailer has left every single fan of the ‘Drishyam’ excited and there is only one question which is doing rounds in the internet and social media and that is – ‘Why On OTT?’. Fans are clearly expressing their disappointment with the news and decision of releasing a potential money spinner movie like Drishyam 2 on OTT. There are several reasons so as to why the audience feel that the movie deserved a theatrical release.

With the presence of Mohanlal, the movie would surely have garnered huge footfalls. And now with 100% occupancy allowed in theatres the decision of OTT release could’ve easily been cancelled. Also the fact that the trailer looks solid enough to be a humongous hit at the theatres.

But it seems that it wasn’t meant to be as Drishyam 2 arrives on Amazon Prime Video on 19th February 2021.
