The runtime of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two has been revealed, and it is longer than Dune (2021). Serving as a continuation of the events of the 2021 film, Dune 2 stars Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Austin Butler, Rebecca Ferguson, Florence Pugh, Josh Brolin, Dave Bautista, Javier Bardem, and many more talents. The sequel will follow Paul Atreides (Chalamet) working with the Fremen to fight against the powerful and evil House Harkonnen to take vengeance for the destruction of his family.
As per Collider, Dune 2 will have a runtime of 2 hours and 46 minutes, becoming Villeneuve’s longest-running film to date. Blade Runner 2049 had a runtime of 2 hours and 44 minutes.
The first Dune part was 2 hours and 35 minutes long. This runtime allowed Villeneuve to bestow proper screentime to many characters and introduce the world of Arrakis to viewers. However, not all of the viewers were happy about it, as they believed the extended runtime made the film boring and slow-paced. But we should not worry about Dune 2 as the director has hailed the sequel as an “epic war movie”. In addition, the second part will be “more action-packed” than the first one.
It is clear that Denis Villeneuve has put more heart and action into Dune 2. An extended runtime of 2 hours and 46 minutes will aid Part Two in reaching to its full potential. Moreover, we have several new characters in the upcoming sequel as well. Pugh will play Princess Irulan, Butler will portray Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, and Christopher Walken will don the character of Shaddam IV, the Emperor of the Universe. Furthermore, Chani (Zendaya), Stilgar (Bardem), and Gurney Halleck (Brolin) will get more screen time in the second part than in the first one.
With so much action and story, the extra 11 minutes will benefit Denis Villeneuve’s Dune 2 for sure. Stay tuned for more updates.
