Dune has been one of the most profitable franchises for Hollywood in recent years. The two movies do a tremendous job at establishing the universe and expanding its world-building. Thus, the question of how all of it came to be is obvious. To answer some of the questions and expand the universe into the past, the franchise is going for a complete series set in the past.
Dune: Prophecy will soon have its release on both the WB platform HBO and MAX. The six-episode series will air and stream simultaneously from Sunday, November 17. Going on for the next six Sundays. Culminating on December 22.
The miniseries will be set 10,000 years before the start of the movies. the main characters, Valya and Tula Harkonnen. Played by Emily Watson and Olivia Williams, respectively. Both of them face a race against time as humanity faces destruction. The series will also showcase the formation of the sect of Bene Gesserit.
The series will be based on the book Sisterhood of Dune by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. The series is being developed under the banner of Lionsgate by Diane Ademu-John and Alison Schapker, who also serves as the showrunners of the show.
The third movie of the Dune franchise is still under work and is yet to have a title; the movie probably takes place after the sequel novel “Dune Messiah,” released in 1969. This will also be the last Dune movie for Denis Villeneuve. It is to be seen how the series manages to work on the prequel concepts, as Hollywood is riddled with prequels that bring nothing but plotholes. The franchise still happens to be the top name and thus makes it probable that the series will be a profitable affair for HBO.
