The rich bengali culture has so many detectives hiding behind the curtains we don’t even know that, but we got a good grip over another detective, a quirky Bengali detective Eken Babu.
Eken Babu is not your usual detective, who uses very serious clues to solve the case, Eken Babu is filled with comic relief which makes the audience more attached to the character.
The story of Eken babu is based on Sujan Dasgupta’s “Ekenbabu Detective Stories”, and Anirban Chakraborti plays the titular role of Eken Babu.
But wait a minute! If Anirban Chakrabarti is Eken Babu then who is Jatayu in “Feluda Ferot” and “Feludar Goyendagiri” ?
Does that mean we can hope for a crossover in the deactivate verse of the Bengali industry?
Because, “Puro Puri Eken” is coming alongside, “Feludar Goyendagiri: Bhushawrgo Bhoyonkawr”, both of these deactivates are so different from each other, if any crossover happens that will be a visual treat.
The season 1 and 2 of Eken Babu was released in 2018, then the series kept on going till 2022 with every year a season, in between that, the franchise broadened its wings, by doing stand alone films in 2021 the 1st movie of this franchise was released, named “The Eken”, and in 2022 the second movie , “The Eken: Ruddhaswas Rajasthan” was premiered.
Although, fans loved Shoumyo Banerjee and Debapriyo Bagchi as Promotho and Bapi, when the makers changed the cast and added Somak Ghosh as Promotho and Suhotra Mukhopadhyay as Bapi, “Eken Babu” got a bit of backlash.
That’s why you don’t mess with the structure people love, but after session 5 audiences accepted Somak and Suhotra with open arms.
We can totally understand how with the first two seasons Eken Babu was able to break the monotonous structure of detective stories.
Furthermore, with the rapid release of content, fans were never out of Eken Babu, and they are still not because Eken Babu is back with his 7th season “Puro Puri Eken” , which will premiere on Hoichoi.
Eken Babu brought a fresh narrative towards detective stories, which is a beautiful take on the industry.
