The Election Commission Of India has just announced Elections 2024 dates in India. Ever since, there has been buzz brewing in social media circles regarding the release date of Kalki 2898 AD, Prabhas’ hotly awaited magnum opus. As film lovers will know, Kalki 2898 AD had announced its theatrical release date as 9th May, 2024. But the election dates threaten to spoil things for Kalki 2898 AD.
For those who still haven’t checked the Elections 2024 dates in India, the ECI has scheduled assembly elections on 13th May, 2024 for the Telugu states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. This means that all malls and theatres will remain closed in both states on that day. Kalki 2898 AD being a Telugu film, even one day of theatres being closed in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in the first week of release itself will mean huge losses for Kalki 2898 AD.
Similarly, since Kalki 2898 AD is a pan-India film, election dates in 10 other states on 13th May itself will again translate to theatres being closed in those states and losses for Kalki 2898 AD in those states.
As per reports in the media, Vyjayanthi Films, the producers of Kalki 2898 AD, are mulling over whether to postpone the Kalki 2898 AD release date in theatres to after the first week of June. Election results will be declared on 4th June, 2024.
Prabhas’ buzzy futuristic thriller film ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ boasts a mouth-watering cast of Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone and Disha Patani, besides the star himself. The sci-fi film is written and directed by Nag Ashwin. ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ is produced by C. Aswani Dutt of Vyjayanthi Movies.
The makers have described ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ as an epic mythological-science fiction dystopian film, and not just a plain sci-fi film. Santhosh Narayanan has composed the music for ‘Kalki 2898 AD’. The cinematography is by Djordje Stojiljkovic. The film is touted to be one of the most expensive films ever in India cinema, if not ‘the’ most expensive.
