Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming film ‘Emergency’ is facing problems in releasing in theaters now. The movie was slated for a release on the 6th of September but the actress has said that the censor board has not yet certified the film and it is facing other issues in the release.
Previously, several Sikh organizations called out for a ban for the movie. The SGPC or Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee and Akal Takht demanded that the movie be banned for its political biases. The trailer has raised multiple controversies and these Sikh bodies claim that the movie is outright misinterpreting leaders of the community and disrespecting them. The Telangana government has effectively put a ban on it.
The movie tells the story of Indira Gandhi, her many political exploits and finally her assassination. Indira Gandhi is one of the most controversial figures in Indian politics and there is much to both praise and hate her for, and making a film on her most debated tenure is bound to attract more controversy.
Zee Entertainment Enterprises, the co-producer of the movie, has approached the Bombay High Court in hopes to quicken the process of certification and release the film soon. They have claimed that the censor board has “arbitrarily and illegally” postponed the certification of the film, thus delaying the release. It is ironic that a movie based on the ‘Emergency period’, known for its biased and overwhelming censorship, is finding it difficult to get released itself.
