Game Of Thrones is arguably the most epic show on TV, with a humongous fan following. Which is why even now, after more than a year of its finale episode, fans of the show love reading anecdotes about Game Of Thrones and the shooting of the show.
But Emilia Clarke’s latest revelations will leave one with a bad taste in the mouth. It has to do with the blatant gender discrimination on the sets of Game Of Thrones. For those not in the know, Emilia Clarke played the popular character of Daenerys Targaryen, mother of dragons, on the show.
Of course, Emilia Clarke doesn’t say as much that it is gender discrimination, but it becomes quite clear were one to read between the lines. Talking on the sidelines of the Edinburgh Film Festival, she shared that most of the shooting took place in hot and humid conditions. But the male members of the cast got a unique way to beat the heat, while the females just had to sweat it out. The costumes of the males were equipped with an inbuilt cooling system. They were fitted with a pump that had its own little generator attached into the costumes. The system pumped cold water into pipes attached to the costumes, which would cool down the actors in the sweltering heat.
She further added that the females were not given any such facility. The only way they could cool off was by having the backs of their wigs lifted up or by applying cold ice packs.
And to think that playing the Queen would have its own set of perks. Guess gender discrimination is rampant everywhere, even in Westeros!
