It seems like things are not looking good for Emraan Hashmi’s Ground Zero on OTT either. The Jannat actor’s recent action thriller flopped badly at the box office, managing to rake in nearly INR 10 crores against a massive INR 50-crore budget during its theatrical run. It hit theatres on April 25. Now, with its OTT release approaching, it seems that its official streaming partner, Prime Video, is not too excited about it either.
Ground Zero is set to debut on Prime Video on June 20 for free. However, the lack of promotional effort from the popular OTT platform for the latest Emraan Hashmi starrer is surprising. Yes, the film was a box office failure, but it received favourable reviews from critics and people who watched it in theatres.
The post-COVID era has been disappointing for many Bollywood actors. However, for Hashmi, this period has turned out to be a complete disaster. Tiger 3 is the only big feature that performed decently at the box office since 2019 for Emraan Hashmi. And that did well largely because of Salman Khan’s massive fan base in India.
Ground Zero emerged as one of the worst-performing movies in Hashmi’s career. Some reports even call it his second-lowest opener after Chehre. People who watched the film praised the actor’s performance, calling it “intense” and “realistic.” That said, there’s no denying that the movie itself suffered from poor marketing before its theatrical release.
The fact that the film is coming out on Prime Video on June 20 (without extra charges) offers a chance for it to reach a wider audience—those who may not have seen it in theatres. However, the lack of promotional effort from Prime Video suggests that even the streaming partner isn’t very optimistic about its performance, limiting the potential for any major “redemption” on OTT.
Right now, Ground Zero is available on Prime Video via rent. After June 20, it can be streamed for free. Stay tuned for more updates.
