Ever Wondered What The Future Of OTTs Gonna Be Like!!

We belong to a generation where we want everything sorted so that we don’t have to go through the mess. And when it comes to deciding what to watch it seems that we are spoilt for choices. The ever growing number of OTT platforms and the explosion of content on these platforms gets messier day by day.

Perhaps someone sounded the bugle of streaming war and these OTTs are taking it damn seriously. Everyone is up for the fight and is grabbing on to as much as they can. The recent slew of announcements by various OTT players is the proof of it. Not that they didn’t pick up content before but it is pretty obvious this is something like a ‘Corona Effect’.

It all started with Amazon Prime Video streaming ‘Gulabo Sitabo’. What appeared to be a one off event has now converted into a grand gala. With Disney+Hotstar, Amazon Prime, Netflix and many more ready to have their own premier leagues. But doesn’t all this add up to viewer’s confusion?

Don’t worry, the new entrants understand this dilemma of yours and soon you might have genre specific platforms. They are powered by extreme research and data to know what you need. They study the behavioural changes taking place in the society and how it is evolving over the period of time. Whether you want edge-of-the-seat thriller, adventure, horror, romance, comedy or drama they will cater accordingly.

One such example is ‘Lionsgate Play’ an OTT platform by Lionsgate Entertainment Corporation. They came to India last year in August and now have a partnership with Jio Fiber. What’s interesting about this OTT service is that it’s primary focus is more on producing urban, edgy-thrillers for a target audience of young adults in the age bracket of 20-45 years. Making them more specific than their fellow competitors.

Who knows what’s going to happen next but one thing is for sure that binge-watchers are up for a treat. It’s a win-win scenario for them because more platforms means more content and when it gets specific you know exactly where to go when you want it. What do you think could be the other category that could have its own OTT platform?
