The entertainment industry has also caught on to the Christmas cheer with gusto – a fact that is proved by the tons of films and web series set to release on OTT platforms and in theatres on and around Christmas.

Criminal Justice Behind Closed Doors: Hindi web series, Disney Plus Hotstar from 24th December
The sequel to hit Hotstar Specials show Criminal Justice. Pankaj Tripathi’s Madhav Mishra will defend a woman Anuradha (Kirti Kulhari), who’s been accused of murdering her husband. Also stars Anupriya Goenka, Shilpa Shukla, Mita Vashisht, Jishhu Sengupta, Ashish Vidyarthi and Dipti Naval in pivotal roles.
Coolie No. 1 — Hindi direct to digital film, Amazon Prime Video, 25th December
It is a remake of Govinda’s original 1995 movie of the same name, directed by David Dhawan, who is directing this version too. It is a comedy family drama. A matchmaker, incensed at the arrogance of a rich old man, hitches his daughter up with a poor coolie to teach him a lesson. The film stars Varun Dhawan, Sara Ali Khan, Paresh Rawal, Javed Jaffrey, Johnny Lever and Rajpal Yadav.
AK Vs AK — Hindi film, Netflix India, 25th December
It is a Netflix Original film, with a quirky storyline. Anil Kapoor plays a Bollywood superstar who ticks off a film director, played by Anurag Kashyap. The director kidnaps Kapoor’s son to extract his revenge. He then proceeds to film the hunt for the superstar’s son to create a live-action real time movie.
Solo Brathuke So Better — Telugu film, releases in theatres on 25th December
A romantic comedy and political drama, directed by Subbu and starring Sai Dharam Tej and Nabha Natesh in lead roles
Wonder Woman 1984, English movie, releasing in theatres on 25th December, also available in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi dubbed versions –
The much awaited sequel to Wonder Woman, it stars Gal Gadot in the titular role of the DC superhero, along with Chris Pine, Pedro Pascal and Kristen Wiig.
Shakeela — Hindi film, releasing in theatres on 25th December, also available in Telugu and Tamil dubbed versions –
A biopic film that tells the story of South siren Silk Smitha, and her rise to fame in the southern film industry. Stars Richa Chadha in the titular role.
Vyuham — Telugu dubbed version of Malayalam film Oru Kuprasidha Payyan, streams on Aha Video from 25th December –
Starring Tovino Thomas and Nimisha Sajayan, it is a suspense thriller and murder mystery, based on a real-life murder
Katteri — Tamil film, releases in theatres on 25th December
Kaatteri is a Tamil-language horror comedy film, written and directed by Deekay. The film stars Vaibhav, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Sonam Bajwa and Aathmika.
Cheeni – Bengali film, releases in theatres on 24th December
Cheeni is a Bengali family drama film directed by Mainak Bhoumik and produced by Shree Venkatesh Films. It stars Madhumita Sarkar, Aparajita Auddy and Saurav Das, and tells the bitter-sweet story of relationship of a mother and daughter.
Pratidwandi — Bengali film, releases in theatres on 25th December
Directed by Saptaswa Basu, Pratidwandi is a murder and suspense thriller. A kid is kidnapped from school. Investigations lead to a connection between the kidnapping and a series of recent murders. Starring Saswata Chatterjee, Rudranil Ghosh, Saurav Das, Saayoni Ghosh, Rini Ghosh, Maahi Kar, Rajdeep Sarkar and others in key roles.
Kakababur Protyabortan — Bengali film, releases in theatres on 25th December
It is an adventure and mystery film directed by Srijit Mukherji, starring Prosenjit Chatterjee, Aryann Bhowmik and Anirban Chakrabarti. It is the next film in the series of films featuring the famous detective Kakababu.
Soul — English film, streams on Disney+ Hotstar from 25th December
Soul is an animated film from Pixar. Just as Joe, a teacher, is is about to realize his lifelong passion of being a jazz musician, an accident occurs and his body is separated from his soul. It is a heartwarming story of how Joe discovers the true meaning of having a soul
We Can Be Heroes – English film, streaming on Netflix from 25th December
Alien invaders kidnap Earth’s superheroes. Now it is upto their children to team up and work together, to save their parents and the world. It stars Priyanka Chopra, Pedro Pascal, YaYa Gosselin, Boyd Holbrook, Sung Kang, Taylor Dooley, and Christian Slater.

Grandma’s Last Wishes – Spanish film dubbed in English, streaming on Netflix from 25th December
Grandma’s Last Wishes is a holiday themed comedy drama revolving around a family. The story follows Elena an old lady who has a big family and a nice house to her name. She falls sick one day and this results in the gathering of her family. That is when she realises that her family has hidden motives.
Shootout at Alair – Telugu series, streaming on Zee5 from 25th December
