Talking about buzzy titles, 2022’s “Everything Everywhere All at Once” managed to draw all the limelight and dominated the award shows. So as you can already expect, with such big titles, directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert will have to carry a massive weight on their shoulders.
The Daniels announced their new project; they are targeting a 2026 release.
Universal Pictures, in a recent agreement with the filmmakers, scheduled an untitled event film directed by the Daniels for June 12, 2026. No details, including title, genre, or cast, have been disclosed, but the expectations are indeed sky-high.
Their previous A24 collaboration managed to be a sensation, even in terms of box office success. It was the first indie film to gross $100M after the pandemic period. However, after that, both makers went through a silent period regarding their next project.
Daniels and Wong boast a diverse portfolio spanning music, TV, and film. They gained initial recognition with Lil Jon’s “Turn Down for What” video and won acclaim for “Swiss Army Man” at Sundance 2016. Universal Studios hailed their unique vision and evolution of craft, cementing a partnership that promises further innovative creations.
The Universal deal will also benefit both parties massively, especially when it comes to finding exposure. The studio will also gain immense hype regarding the credibility of Wong and Daniels.
