Everything You Need To Know Behind The Helm Of Amazon Prime’s Cold Case

After a gap of nearly 13 years, Tanu Balak returns to mainstream Malayalam filmmaking. The cinematographer-director is helming the upcoming Prithviraj-starrer ‘Cold Case‘, which will stream on Amazon Prime Video tomorrow, so here is everything you need to know about this director and his involvement in this film:

First time directing
Tanu Balak started his career as a cinematographer in Mollywood. This Amazon Prime releasing thriller will be Tanu’s directorial debut and that too after a 13-year hiatus from the mainstream movie industry.

Ad filmmaking
The 13-year hiatus was not a break from cinema. Tabu was honing his craft as a filmmaker during that time, by creating and directing a lot of ads for the small screen. Needless to say, he succeeded and he is back to try a hand at mainstream directing.

Cold Case Script
The film’s script was almost complete when the pandemic hit. He worked on the script with the scriptwriter, Sreenath V. Nath and they perfected it just before the lockdown restrictions had been lifted.

Precise Shooting Time Period
By adhering to the Covid-19 restrictions during the filming, the shooting process got completed in just 45 days, from November 2020 to December 2020. Luckily, there weren’t any coronavirus cases, thanks to their isolation.

Made for OTT viewing
During the time of filming, the destruction in Kerala we’re still quite severe. Since theatres weren’t opened (and wasn’t expected to open any time), the director and producer had planned to release this film directly onto an OTT platform. And despite the initial set theatrical release date and its subsequent cancellation, we will get to see this movie on a digital platform.

Cold Case will premiere on Amazon Prime Video tomorrow, on June 30th 2021.
