Reputed production company Excel Entertainment, led by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, is riding high after the streaming success of their critically acclaimed gangster drama series ‘Bambai Meri Jaan’ on Amazon Prime Video. And they are in no mood to stop. The studio has a host of interesting films and shows waiting to be released and they have now revealed its updated production slate which includes some highly anticipated titles like ‘Mirzapur Season-3’, ‘Don 3’, ‘Jee Le Zaraa’ and many more.
The first Excel Entertainment upcoming film to be released is ‘Fukrey 3’, which is slated for a theatrical release next week. But that’s already known.
Ever since its explosive second season premiered on Amazon Prime Video in October 2020; fans of the cult show have been waiting with bated breath for an update on the release date of ‘Mirzapur Season-3’. As per the updated production slate, the third season of ‘Mirazpur’ will come out sometime in the first three months of 2024.
Recently, it was announced that Excel is taking the legacy of the ‘Don’ franchise forward with Ranveer Singh playing the new titular anti-hero in ‘Don 3’, which is expected to be released in the year 2025. Farhan Akhtar will once again don the director’s hat for ‘Don 3’ next year. About Farhan Akhtar’s other directorial venture ‘Jee Le Zaraa’ starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Alia Bhatt, and Katrina Kaif, the project is currently on hold owing to date issues particularly after the ongoing actors’ strike in the US.
Besides his role as a director, Farhan Akhtar will also face the camera as an actor for a yet-untitled slice-of-life romantic musical which is to be helmed by ‘Made In Heaven’ director Nitya Mehra.
Another forthcoming interesting project from ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ makers Excel Entertainment is a three-part documentary series ‘Angry Young Men’ which focuses on the iconic screenwriter duo Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar and how they created legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan’s angry young man image in the 1970s period. The project is already complete, and a release date should be announced soon.
Furthermore, Rahul Dholakia’s fire fighters-based action-drama movie ‘Agni’ is also under development and is set for a 2024 release. The film features Divyenndu Sharma, Pratik Gandhi, and Saiyami Kher in pivotal roles. Then, there is a true story-based film ‘Ground Zero’ directed by Tejas Vijay Deoskar and starring Emran Hashmi which is now in the post-production stage.
‘Go Goa Gone’ actor Kunal Kemmu is also geared up for his directorial debut ‘Madgaon Express’, a comedy drama movie which is also under post-production. And Ravi Udyawar’s action thriller movie ‘Yudhra’ starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Malvika Mohanan, which was announced back in February 2021, is still under development.
Moreover, Excel Productions’ first series for Netflix ‘Dabba Cartel’ has recently commenced filming. The show’s story revolves around five housewives who manage a secret cartel. And their maiden supernatural horror show ‘Unseen’ is also complete.
