While there was some speculation going around Idris Elba has confirmed that the Luther film will be made and that it will go into production this year at BBC. Streaming platforms have all looked to cash in on franchises that already have a huge following and a film on ‘Luther’ just goes to show the quality of the story and its performances.
Idris Elba plays John Luther who is a passionate detective and ends up becoming acquaintances with a psychopath and murderer who could not be arrested due to lack of evidence and now they solve cases together.
The Luther series had been part of some controversy when the diversity manager at BBC Miranda Wayland had suggested that Luther’s character wasn’t authentic enough for a black protagonist.
Idris Elba, Ruth Wilson, Michael Smiley, Warren Brown, Dermot Crowley, Paul McGann, Indira Varma played notable roles in the series amongst others. Seeing Elba reprise the role of Luther will certainly be very exciting and we hope that the film will pan out to the expectations and hype that is surrounding it.
