The makers of Fahadh Faasil’s upcoming film ‘Malayankunju’ have finally reached a decision regarding the release of the Malayalam film. After intense speculations of ‘Malayankunju’ skipping theatres and releasing directly on OTT, producer Fazil has now decided to release the film in the theatres after all.
‘Malayankunju’ is Fahadh Faasil’s in-house production, given that Fazil is his father, and the film is produced under the banner of ‘Fahadh Faasil And Friends’, the production company of the Fazils. The father-son duo have correctly read the pulse of film fans, who have been vociferously demanding a theatrical release for ‘Malayankunju’. Giving in to the demands of Fahadh Faasil fans, Fahadh Faasil and Fazil have given up the direct OTT release plan and opted for the cinemas for ‘Malayankunju’.
Not just Fahadh Faasil fans, even AR Rahman fans were quite miffed with the OTT release plan for ‘Malayankunju’. As per them, AR Rahman’s musical compositions deserve to be experienced only in theatres.
The theatrical release for ‘Malayankunju’ also makes sense given the rising popularity of Fahadh Faasil amongst filmgoers. His recent outings in Pushpa and Vikram have earned him huge appreciation and accolades for his stellar acting skills and terrific screen presence. Both these films notwithstanding, Fahadh Faasil’s last solo lead film to release in the theatres was Trance, right at the beginning of 2020. It’s high time fans get to watch their favourite actor as the sole hero on the big screen.
Malayalam film ‘Malayankunju’ is a survival thriller, written by Mahesh Narayanan, and directed by Sajimon Prabhakar. It stars Fahadh Faasil and Rajisha Vijayan in the lead roles, along with Indrans, Jaffar Idukki and Deepak Parambol in supporting roles. The film is based on real events that took place in Kerala when people were trapped underneath a devastating landslide.
