Fahadh Faasil’s ‘Dhoomam’ Telugu dub version is set to have its world premiere on Aha Video. A Malayalam language thriller drama helmed by Pawan Kumar, ‘Dhoomam’ has had its fair share of OTT struggles after its theatrical run last year.
Exploring the theme of nicotine and tobacco smoking and its ill effects on the society, ‘Dhoomam’ is a psychological thriller drama diving into the mindset of tobacco industrialists.
It follows the story of Avinash, the marketing head of a top tobacco company, who gets trapped by an unknown man and is made to provide money to the man in order to save himself and his wife, Diya. The film runs in parallel storyline, in present where Avinash and his wife are getting chased, and, in past, where he grows higher in jobplace with his friend, Siddhu, who owns the company.
Despite delivering a significant social message, ‘Dhoomam’ could not captivate the audience and is quite tedious. The story lacks in emotional depth and that leads to feeling disconnected.
Due to such poor reception from the audience, Amazon Prime Video, which had acquired the digital rights for the film, dropped and reverted the rights to Hombale Films. Later last year, the film released digitally on Apple TV and iTunes and is also available on Google Play Movies & TV (but one has to pay separately to watch them there too).
Moreover, after not being able to find any suitable OTT platform, Hombale Films released the film on their YouTube channel for free on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day on 31st May, 2024.
It’s only more than a year after its theatrical release and more than a month after being freely available in original Malayalam version on YouTube that the Telugu dub version of ‘Dhoomam’ will premiere on Aha Video on 11th July, 2024.
