Book adaptations are all the rage right now. And so are sequels and franchise films. Alas, a fan-favorite TV show is officially not getting a new season, despite crazy online rumors.
Hulu’s drama miniseries ‘Normal People’, is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Irish author Sally Rooney. It follows two polar opposite teenagers, Marianne and Connell, a social outcast and a high-achiever, as they traverse the complicated planes of young love throughout secondary school and in university at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland.
Fans were anticipating a new season announcement after the leading actors posted a cryptic announcement recently. However, no new season was announced, rather the cast was reuniting for a good cause.
The leading duo was played by Daisy Edgar-Jones and Paul Mescal, both of whose careers skyrocketed after the show. Mescal made a splash with roles in ‘Aftersun’, which earned him an Academy Award nomination, and Andrew Haigh’s critically acclaimed ‘All of Us Strangers’. He is next set to star in the upcoming ‘Gladiator’ sequel as well as Richard Linklater’s film imagining of the musical ‘Merrily We Roll Along’.
Edgar-Jones, on the other hand, had another TV role alongside Andrew Garfield in ‘Under the Banner of Heaven’. She earned critical acclaim for her role in the film adaptation of ‘Where the Crawdads Sing’, and will next be seen in the remake of ‘Twisters’ alongside fellow in-demand actor Glen Powell.
