Jeethu Joseph’s Drishyam 2 is gearing up to release globally on Amazon Prime Video this February 19th. The Mohanlal starrer will be the sequel to the 2013 ‘Drishyam’ and will have a direct to OTT release. After years of speculation on the possible sequel of Drishyam, where Jeethu Joseph always denied it’s existence, he is finally bringing the much awaited further story for Georgekutty and his family. And he thanks none other than the fan fictions and fan theories which actually lead him to work on the possible sequel.
Despite getting every possible acclaim for his suspense thriller ‘Drishyam’, Jeethu Joseph was against the idea for a potential sequel of the “already perfect” movie. Even his family members were against the idea and pressed the fact that the movie is already pretty close to a perfection and there is no need for their (Georgekutty and his family) story to be dragged.
But after 2-3 years of the release, people started making their own stories for the sequels and it was the fan theories and fan fictions which motivated Joseph to work on the much awaited sequel. Its completely understandable that if the audience is so much invested in a particular project why not give it a go? So Joseph started working on the sequel on the advise of his producer Anthony Perumbavoor.
Joseph, completed the initial draft of the script and sent it to many people to oversee the movie and send their reviews. The fact that Joseph didn’t want any stone unturned for the sequel was both commendable and necessary. After getting a go ahead from almost everyone who thought that the idea of the sequel – ‘Drishyam 2’ was good enough, Jeethu Joseph fully delved himself into the project.
Seeing how the fan fictions have resulted in big developments in the entertainment industry in recent past shows how invested people are into the movies and television shows and how much a big role these things play in their lives. If only it was for the fan theories, we are finally going to witness the much awaited sequel of probably one of the best thrillers from India on February 19th 2021!
